We are an astronomical society with many members of all ages and specialists in various astronomical disciplines.
Shortly after the creation of the SAC, we experienced our first total solar eclipse. The year 1999 marked, for many of us, our initiation into these phenomena. Two expeditions of members, one by air to Austria and another by land to Hungary, allowed us to enjoy what for many was our “first contact” with totality. And although clouds and rain threatened throughout the journey, in the end the impression was etched into our memory, as well as onto some photographic film and analog video from that time.
Another moment worth highlighting: in 2005, a trip to Turkish lands brought a good group of members once again face to face with totality. Traveling to see an eclipse is not just about the eclipse itself; it also means discovering new places and living unforgettable experiences with friends… Cappadocia became our new destination, where a completely clear sky gave us an unforgettable view of the eclipse.
Many members have since been able to travel to see other total eclipses in China or the USA. But an astronomer does not live on eclipses alone. Great meteor showers, giant comets, asteroid impacts on Jupiter… Over these years we have had the chance to witness many astronomical events. However, few are comparable to a total eclipse. We invite you to come and experience it in person on August 12, 2026.
If you have questions about possible locations you have chosen, about what to visit in our province, or any other eclipse-related questions, please get in touch with us.
